Six Adventurous Audiobooks That Will Nourish Your Soul

Posted by Jolene Barto on

A great thing about audiobooks is that you can literally take them everywhere with you. Most of the time, for me, where I’m taking them is fairly unexciting – think: watching live humans and commuting to work – but I do take a great audiobook with me in more adventurous endeavors. For example, there’s nothing like listening to an adventurous audiobook while traveling to a new destination or while going on a weekend hike.

Or maybe going for a run? I don’t run, let’s get honest.

Adventurous Audiobooks I hate jogging

If you’re seeking a great book to get the heart pumping, look no further! I’ve put together a list of my top adventurous audiobooks that are sure to satiate any wanderlust while also giving you some soul-affirmation:

Finding Gobi by Dion Leonard

Author Dion Leonard went to run an ultramarathon in the Gobi Desert and found himself his new best friend: a scrappy little pup who ran the marathon with Dion. The two became bonded for life, but first Dion would have to navigate coming back to China, finding Gobi after the race, and navigating the process of bringing him back to Scotland to live with him. It’s truly a globetrotter of a book and heartwarming to the max to top it off. Plus, there’s a cute dog. Really now, what more could you want?

Wild at Heart by John Eldredge

This is the ultimate adventurous audiobook. Eldredge proposes this: adventure is a part of your soul. Do your soul some good and go on an adventure.

At Home in the World by Tsh Oxenreider

This book speaks to my heart: a family who decides that travel will be a priority for them. There’s something quietly bold and wholesome about Tsh’s adventurous audiobook. If you’ve been inflicted with wanderlust but you also still love the coziness of home, this is a must-listen.

Run the Mile You’re In by Ryan Hall

Full disclosure once again: I am not a runner, but Ryan Hall kind of makes me wish I was one. He went from not being a runner, to feeling an overwhelming need to run the fifteen miles around his neighborhood lake. After that, he was hooked, and his passion for running has taken him across the world and allowed for him to meets so many different people. This book is bigger than running: it’s about pursuing your adventure whatever it is, not being discouraged by setbacks, and pushing forward to work towards your true passion in life. This non-runner thinks it is downright inspiring.

Around the World on 50 Bucks by Christopher Schacht

Truly, this is the book for wanderlusters. Christopher Schacht decided to leave him home in Germany for an around-the-world trip with only fifty euros to his name. From hitchhiking to sleeping on stranger’s floors, he saw so much of the world on the thinnest shoestring budget to ever shoestring. This adventurous audiobook is letting the journey dictate where you go, not you dictating where the journey will go.

Get Your Life Back by John Eldredge

This book is about quiet adventure. In a world where our attention is constantly being pulled one way or another, Get Your Life Back is about pulling back and focusing on what is important. Adventure doesn’t always have to be loud and crazy – it can be about observing the beauty of a sunrise or enjoying a nourishing conversation with your best friend. After all, what’s more adventurous than living life to the fullest, amiright?

If you haven't heard yet, Get Your Life Back is our Book of the Month! We have an amazing giveaway for this title, so be sure to check it out on Instagram!
