We, at Page Chaser, are always down for a good reading challenge. This year, I’m already doing two – Book Riot’s Read Harder Challenge
and the GoodReads Challenge. But there is always room for more!
June 21 is the Summer Solstice – the longest day of the year. What better way to spend it than reading? So, that's just what we did.
Summer Solstice Reading Relay - Here is how it worked:
- Got a group of friends to volunteer to be part of the reading relay.
- Decided on a central book that everyone can read together.
- Created a schedule in half hour or hour increments and get everyone to sign up for preferred times throughout the day.
- Read from sun-up to sun-down.
- When we finished our reading time, texted a quick summary to the next person.
That's right. We all decided to read books together, but without context. This year the Page Chaser team went with The Chronicles of Narnia
series by C.S. Lewis - starting with The Magician's Nephew
. Considered one of America’s top 100 most-loved novels, this classic was recently selected by PBS as part of The Great American Read
Below, you will see the 25 fantastic text messages we sent each other. We laughed. We cried. It moved us, Bob. We learned quite a lot (especially how to spell 'Edmund'). We made it all the way to book four: Prince Caspian
. What resulted was a wild game of literary telephone.
Now, enjoy our bizarre summary of The Chronicles of Narnia.
The Final Summary:
And that's as far as we got! How will Prince Caspian
end? Did we ever truly understand the names of all those talking horses? How does only one Page Chaser own a non-Apple phone? Tune in this winter, when we attempt to finish the series during the Winter Solstice Reading Relay!
