We, at Page Chaser, are always down for a good reading challenge. This year, I’m already doing two – Book Riot’s Read Harder Challenge and the GoodReads Challenge. But there is always room for more! Summer Solstice Reading Relay - Here is how it worked:

  • Got a group of friends to volunteer to be part of the reading relay.
  • Decided on a central book that everyone can read together.
  • Created a schedule in half hour or hour increments and get everyone to sign up for preferred times throughout the day.
  • Read from sun-up to sun-down.
  • When we finished our reading time, texted a quick summary to the next person.
summer solsticeThat's right. We all decided to read books together, but without context. This year the Page Chaser team went with The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis - starting with The Magician's Nephew. Considered one of America’s top 100 most-loved novels, this classic was recently selected by PBS as part of The Great American Read. Below, you will see the 25 fantastic text messages we sent each other. We laughed. We cried. It moved us, Bob. We learned quite a lot (especially how to spell 'Edmund'). We made it all the way to book four: Prince Caspian. What resulted was a wild game of literary telephone.
